The Cayman Islands is one of the most beautiful locations for a wedding ceremony. Many visiting couples opt to get married on the beach, in the shade of coconut or casuarina trees. There’s just something special about standing barefoot in the white sands of Cayman, holding your partner’s hand, with the peaceful sounds of the gently lapping waters in the background.

Both stay-over and cruise visitors may apply for a special marriage licence which will be granted by the governor. These are granted the same day so that cruise passengers can be married during their stop in the Cayman Islands. Of course you would want the application for the licence to be handled by the marriage officer or the company arranging your wedding.

Requirements for the licence application include such things as signatures of both parties, names, addresses, etc. Required documentation include:

  • Proof of identity, such as an original or certified birth certificate or passport
  • Cayman Islands international embarkation/disembarkation card or ship’s boarding pass
  • Certified or original copies of divorce decrees/death certificates if applicable
  • Two witnesses at the ceremony

The marriage licence fee is CI$150 (US$187.50), and the application fee is CI$50 (US$62.50). Applications should be filed at the Passport and Corporate Services office on the second floor of the Sussex House, George Town, Grand Cayman.
